First Christian Church is located in Weirton, WV in Hancock County, approximately 35 miles from downtown Pittsburgh. Nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains and bordered by the Ohio River, our community is facing many challenges that are common throughout our country. The steel mill that was once the major provider for our area is now only operating at a portion of its original size.
We seek to help rehabilitate those who suffer from drug and/or alcohol addiction. Though these struggles are real, the heart and commitment of the people of the Ohio Valley stays strong. Weirton is within commuting distance to several colleges/universities. Bethany College is within a thirty-minute drive. Founded by Alexander Campbell, who also was a founder of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) movement, Bethany College offers B.A., B.S., and M.A.T. degrees, in addition to various continuing education programs. It is also the home of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society. Other nearby institutions include WV Northern Community College (Weirton); Franciscan University in Steubenville, OH; West Liberty University in West Liberty, WV; and Wheeling University in Wheeling, WV. |
